28-Dec-2018  Menahamiya – Winter Cup Day 1

Jordan Valley, near the Sea of Galilee

Waze driving instructions – Menahamiya

DAY 1 – UPDATES:
Access to area is through the village of Menahemiya on a dirt road that leads to the forest – a little long but easy to drive.

From the parking area to the arena – walking distance about 500 m.
From the arena to the start – about 100 m.

Terrain: The first day of the winter championship is characterized by open forest, and steep hills, in which competitors have to carefully consider their route choices in a physically-demanding but enjoyable terrain. This is a new map in a unique forest, unfamiliar to many.
In some parts the terrain is very rocky running in these sections is almost impossible. The map shows the stony ground, which should be considered when choosing your route.

Changes to the mapped area: Over the last month,  extensive changes have been made in several areas of the pine forest. Some sections of pine trees have been fully cut down, and some of these sections have been blocked off with fences that are impassable to the average orienteer.
As much as possible, these changes have been updated in the map, and the impassable fences are marked with a thick purple line.
